Year 7 Student Of The Week
Students of the Week for Week 4 were Jake Bradley for being Responsible and exemplary behaviour and effort in ALL classes and Josie Beeson for being Responsible and always working hard displaying exemplary behaviour and effort in all classes.
Year 7 Humanities
The Year 7s are currently investigating the Water in the World Unit in Humanities, and have been exploring the burden of water access in developing countries experiencing water stress, scarcity and unimproved water sources. One fact that shocked students was that women in these developing countries on average carry 20L of water over 12 kilometres each day, to ensure that their families and villages have water to drink. As a class, we attempted to replicate how heavy this weight would truly feel to carry, and what a skill it is to be able to balance this substantial weight on your head over such enormous distances! While this was a fun activity, the reality of the global water crisis became far more real during this lesson. 7A was feeling extremely grateful for our improved water access and availability.

Year 8B Geography
This term’s topic is Landscapes and Landforms.
The skills we are developing are the stages of the investigation process:
Observing, questioning and planning
Collecting, recording, evaluating and representing
Interpreting analysing and concluding
Communicating
Due to a huge improvement in the class’ overall behaviour in the last eight weeks, we have been trialling some different approaches to our learning.
Our Tuesday lesson is content driven and usually a teacher created PowerPoint presentation during which time we note take and discuss the new terminology and information.
Our Thursday lesson is group work whereupon we are split into groups of four and revise the content learnt during previous lessons. We have access to laptops to assist us with the research tasks in our group folders. In the folder there is also a feedback option so we can provide the teacher with information that may determine future tasks. Mrs D-M likes to know if our work is too easy, engaging, not enough, and any suggestions we may have e.g. Can we do a presentation, a quiz, a project etc. We are in our second week of group activities and thus far our behaviour and team work efforts have been excellent.
Friday’s lesson is the last lesson of the school week so we spend the 70 minutes doing technology-based activities such as creating visual presentations, mapping, drawing, and researching on the desktop computers.
Our class is currently on track for a whole class reward for excellent behaviour. If we reach Friday, the 19th August without any buddy class referrals we are having a celebration, which may include some refreshments and a game of our own choice outside. We have two weeks to go!

From The Wellbeing Team
An important part of wellbeing is developing strategies for a healthy and productive thinking. Over the weeks the Health and Wellbeing committee will share information on elements of a healthy mind. The first element is PERSISITING.
Quite often it is easy to give up when our first attempt at something doesn’t work. Persisting is training our brain to see when something doesn’t work and think about why it doesn’t work.
When encountering problems it is worthwhile changing your mindset from “I can’t do this” to “I can’t do this YET”. If we use the mindset that anything is achievable with persistence and hard work then we are to work towards our goals in healthy ways. Remember we sometimes learn more from our mistakes then from getting it right the first time.
