POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING FOCUS

Being Safe -
We follow safety procedures

From The Principal

Remembrance Day 2021

Today at 11:00am Ms Hyland escorted a two of our senior students to participate in the ceremony in town to mark Remembrance Day. At school we were able to test the page function of our new phone system to engage with all students in a minute’s silence. While this was happening our Year 8 clarinet player, Tom Kunde, played the last post in the courtyard to a small group of staff and students. Well done to all!

Capital Works Projects Update

We are progressing with the final arrangements for the multipurpose hall, new ITD workshop and Agriculture infrastructure projects. These will be first rate facilities that will add greatly to the capacity of the school when completed by mid-2023. Plans and details will be presented at the P&C meeting next Monday.

Awards Night

Our Awards evening will be held this next Thursday in the Rec Centre at school. This is an important evening when we take the time to recognise the great achievements of our students across the year. Congratulations to all students who receive certificates and awards on this evening!

Valedictory Ceremony

Next Friday represents a significant day of the life of our Year 12 cohort as it is their last day of school. This is a tremendous achievement for all students. This event will start at 10:10am and will conclude with a morning tea for the Year 12 students and their guests.

York McFadzean
Principal

From Acting Senior HOD

Congratulations to our Year 12 students that have been working so hard sitting their external exams and completing their final assessment pieces. Not long to go and there will be no more school bells, no more school lunches, and no more trying to find a clean uniform to throw on in the morning. Just a reminder that all Year 12s are required to return all textbooks and their laptop to the library by next Wednesday. Students will also need to be in attendance on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A full program of these days was included with the note that went home a few weeks ago.

Our Year 11 students have now finished all their assessment for 2021 and are currently starting on learning new material. For this reason it is important for students to continue to attend school right up until the end of Week 8 so they don’t miss out on key content and knowledge.

Finally, not long until our Year 10 students head off on camp to Emu Gully. Final payments for students attending are now overdue. A very big thank you to Miss Jess Embrey for all her hard work planning and organising this camp. It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun.

Awards Night 18 November

Invitations have been posted out to the families whose students are receiving an award. Awards night will start at 6pm on Thursday 18 November at the St George High School Rec Centre. All students are to be dressed in formal uniform. After the ceremony any sponsors that wish to have a photo with the award winning student are to see Nichole Taylor.

Year 12 Valedictory 19 November

All Year 12 parents and guardians are welcome to join us at the Year 12 Valedictory on the 19 November starting at 10.10am at the Rec Centre. Year 12 parents are invited to a morning tea in the Library afterwards.

Remembrance Day

Year 11 students Michelle Hams and Christina McKee paid their respects on behalf of St George State High School staff and students at the town Remembrance Day ceremony yesterday. The whole school paid their respects and stood for a minute silence while Tom Kunde played the last post on his clarinet. Well done Tom!

Year 9 ITD

This term the Year 9s are working on developing their skills and imagination by designing a CO2 racing car. The project involved a lot of aerodynamic thinking, some force and gravitation knowledge as well as learning how to shape balsa wood. Racing and timing the cars brought out the competitiveness in all.

Year 9 Science

The Grade 9 students have been putting their investigation skills to the test in preparation for our final assessment in science. In the upcoming weeks, the students will investigate a crime to find out which teacher is guilty of a crime. They will be required to inspect fingerprints, inspect pen ink via chromatography testing, view hair under the microscope, and test mysterious powders. Pictured are students viewing different animal hairs under a microscope, and dusting off footprint casts they made in previous lessons.
