POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING FOCUS

Being Respectful -
We use polite language

St George SHS is a PBL school, but what does that mean? PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning. It is a plan for schools to be a positive place to learn, to teach students how to behave at school, to tell students when they do the right thing and to provide help for students when they make mistakes.

Each week we have a focus positive behaviour that is explicitly taught and encouraged. Parents are encouraged to discuss this focus with their students and become involved in the PBL journey.

Anne Brimblecombe

From Deputy Principal

It is important that we ensure the safety of all students. To this end, it is important that when students are leaving school during the school day that parents/guardians sign them out at the office in person. A parent/guardian must be sited to ensure that the students are going where they are supposed to. Parents/guardians cannot phone the office to give students permission to leave the school grounds. Parents/guardians must come to the office and collect students from the office. Also, only the legal parent/guardian or emergency contact listed recorded at the school can sign students out of the school.

Parents and Guardians are reminded that if they need to see their student they must come into the office and sign in. All visitors to the school must sign in at the office for safety reasons. If you want to deliver lunches, please drop them off in the office.

Thank you for your cooperation in these matters to keep all students safe.

Student Stationery

Please check with your child if they are needing to bring more stationery supplies that they use on a daily basis. Eg pens, pencils, glue sticks etc.

Students Late For School

Please make sure your child makes every effort to arrive to school on time between 8.00am and 8.45am. Persistent lateness will be investigated and disciplinary action may be implemented.

Financial Obligations

All Students Textbook and Resource fees are now overdue for those parents that have not paid to date. Prompt payment would be appreciated. Parents who have not paid can expect their student/s will not be permitted to participate in any future extracurricular or end of year activities and may not be allocated additional scheme resources in the future. Extracurricular includes SW Sport & State Title trials, Formal, Sheep Team, School Camps & Excursions etc. Contact Jo Withers the Business Manager for any further information.

2021 Early School Leavers Survey

The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual survey of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left school in 2020, before completing Year 12. This short, confidential survey collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving school. The results of the survey help provide valuable information to improve services available to school leavers in the future.

Between August and September, these school leavers can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate.

Thank you for your support of Next Step post-school destination surveys in 2021.

Vietnam Veterans Day

School Captain Samuel Waters and Vice-Captain Haley Moloney proudly represented St George State High School reading a poem and presenting a wreath at the ceremony on Wednesday. Vietnam Veterans Day is commemorated on 18 August every year. The day was originally known as Long Tan Day, chosen to commemorate the men of D Company, 6RAR who fought in the battle of Long Tan in 1966. On this day, 108 Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought a pitched battle against over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation not far from the small village of Long Tan. The Australians prevailed, but only after fighting in torrential rain for four hours. They were nearly overrun, but were saved by a timely ammunition resupply, accurate artillery fire from the nearby Australian base, and the arrival of reinforcements by armoured personnel carrier. Eighteen Australians lost their lives and 24 were wounded, the largest number of casualties in one operation since the Australian task force had arrived a few months earlier. In 1987 Prime Minister Bob Hawke announced that Long Tan Day would be known as Vietnam Veterans Day. Since then, it has been commemorated every year as the day on which the service of all those men and women who served in Vietnam is remembered.

Year 7 Geography

This term Year 7s have been learning about how water impacts to the world. On Wednesday 7B did a water experiment to see if we could create our own water cycle. Hopefully, in a few weeks we will see some evaporation and condensation on our mini water cycle!

Down At The Ag Plot

Due to the success of the ag poultry breeding program, we now have an excess of six roosters. These roosters have been bred at the High School and are Rhode Island Red X Isa Brown. If you are interested in purchasing for $10 each or would like more information please contact Caitlin Crowe on 46208222 or email ccrow79@eq.edu.au.

Formal

The Year 12 students are spending their lunch breaks practising their formal dancing. Only four weeks until the big day!

SPORTS NEWS

SW Athletics:- After consultation with Department of Education’s Central Office and the Darling Downs South West Education Region, the decision was made to cancel the 10-19 South West & Field regional trials. While the decision was not undertaken lightly, it now aligns with the other regions across the state. The decision will bring much disappointment to students, families and staff who have worked incredibly hard towards preparing for the event. Hopefully 2022 will see this event return to St George.

Balonne Athletics:- Well done to the students who participated in the 10-12 years Balonne Carnival. Thirteen students from St George State High School competed against schools from St Patricks, St George State Primary, Dirranbandi P-10, Bollon, Hebel, Thallon and Begonia. Our students participated well in their events, enough so that St George State High School was awarded Overall Champion School and Dirranbandi P-10 on the march past. Well Done!!
