School Opinion Survey 2021
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted 15 July to 30 July 2021. The Department of Education will commence sending email invitations to participants in the second week of the school holidays. Keep an eye out for yours!
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 30 July 2021. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 5 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2021. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.
Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.

Miss Kym Weatherall
Year 7 Camp Burleigh Heads
During Week 6, Year 7, Miss Weatherall, Miss Wallace, Miss Embrey and Mr Fisher travelled to the Gold Coast for our week long stay at CYC Burleigh! We hit the road, leaving St George at 6am. Even though it was an early start, it did not stop us pumping tunes through the buses… well, at least one bus. The other bus had Miss Wallace as their designated DJ, who just could not seem to get the Bluetooth to work! After a long day of driving we had finally made it to Burleigh, everyone was keen to feel the sand between their toes and listen to the waves crashing against the rocks. The next two days were packed full with different activities, including: body boarding, stand up paddle boarding and a long, tiring but peaceful canoeing journey. Despite the tired students and teachers, the chafe and long days, everyone was keen for a beach swim in the afternoon! Wednesday night saw the teachers victorious over the students in trivia, with their competitive side coming out strong! Finally, Thursday arrived and everyone was over the moon for Dreamworld. As soon as we passed the gates, the students were first in line for each of the thrill rides. Friday soon rolled around and we were sad to say good bye to CYC, but welcomed the familiar sites of St George!
My favourite thing about camp was going to the beach with all my friends and doing all the fun activities. We did stand up paddle boarding. Which I found fun because no one had done it before. We all worked together even though we all fell off a couple of times. By the end of the activity, everyone was good!
- Daniel Sheedy 7B
The best days were Tuesday and Thursday! On Tuesday, we did body boarding at the beach and stand up paddle boarding which was fun! On Thursday, we went to Dreamworld I went on The Giant Drop, Gold Coaster, The Claw and the Dodgem Cars.
- Sienna Saunders 7B
My favourite part of Year 7 Camp was stand up paddle boarding because it was all our first time. People tried to push each other of the boards, which was a fun game! The funniest thing was that everybody fell off more than two times. We could not go far because everyone was scared and not very good at it but at least we all had fun!
- Shiphrah Bada 7A
My favourite activity on camp was canoeing we were able to choose our teammates. There was one person up the front to be the leader and be the motor. There were two in the middle to be the speed and one person in the back to steer us around. It was fun when we capsized! It was a shame because my bag got wet. I had heaps of fun on camp but canoeing was the best.
- Olly Lockwood 7A
One of many highlights of my week at camp was our morning body boarding session! The waves were fantastic and the sun was blaring. Racing to the shoreline was great fun! Otherwise – the tunes on the bus were great too.
Miss Embrey
Farm Fest
On the 7 June, seven show team students travelled to Kingsthorpe Park outside Toowoomba to compete in livestock competitions at Farm Fest. Despite the very cold, windy and rainy weather, the students continued to demonstrate their positive energy and commitment to the team.
Throughout the four days, the team paraded our school cattle in the led steer or heifer competition, and junior stud bull division, as well as competing in young handler and young judges competitions. Congratulations goes out to Sharon Pearce and Stavrianna Purcell for coming 4th and 5th in Junior Judging out of approximately 75 other students. A big achievement for the two girls!
The students also got the opportunity to learn from experienced stud owners and assist with tasks in the Droughtmaster and Santa Gertrudis Stud sheds. The student’s hard work in the sheds paid off as the owner let four of our students parade his Santa Gertrudis stud bulls in the show ring, gaining valuable experience.
A huge thank you goes out to Mr Brendan Devine, for volunteering his time and use of his cattle truck to transport our cattle to and from Farm Fest. Another big thank you to Karen Mawhinney for volunteering to brave the cold and attend the camp as additional help and supervision. The show team could not have attended Farm fest without the help of these two amazing people!
Although we may have been nearly frozen from the frost, been blown away in the wind and been swimming in pools of water that were supposed to be our swags, everyone returned to St George with a smile on their face, having learnt a lot and having many fun stories to tell.
A huge thank you to Shane from ProLix (Bundaberg Molasses) for his donation of Hats, Beanies, Pens and $100 towards the show team! We are so grateful for your support.
If anyone would like to sponsor the school show team and support in any way, please contact the school office.
Miss Caitlin Crowe

Home Ec Happenings
Thanks to people who have sent in ice cream containers and lids for use by our forgetful students. Continue to send them in after the holidays if you have any spare please.
Year 7, 8 and 9 Home Ec groups have all finished their units and are rotating on to new electives. My small group of Year 9 workers have enjoyed making coffee and hot and cold drinks this semester to practice their skills in production and appropriate delivery. They have also worked willingly this week making drinks to fill staff drink and student milkshake orders as part of our SALVOS Winter Appeal Fundraising. Along with quiches that the teacher made and sold for staff orders, $400 has been donated to this very worthy charity.
Year 10 students finished up their Multicultural Cookery unit looking at indigenous dishes this week. Kangaroo Curry and Stew and creamed rice and lemon myrtle tapioca pudding are all on the taste testing menu. Next term, there will no doubt be complaints from their rumbly tummies as they move onto the Textile unit, looking at sustainable textile use and creating projects from recycled fabrics and trims.
It’s been a busy term and I wish everyone a restful winter break.
Mrs Julie Worboys
