Parent/Teacher Interviews 28 April

From Acting Principal
Agriculture Show Team
Congratulations to all the students, staff, parents and community members involved in the Warwick show. The students were true ambassadors of St George and represented the school and community in a very respectful way. They are to be commended on their efforts.
Reporting to Parents & Parent/Teacher Interviews
As outlined in the P-12 curriculum, assessment and reporting framework, (http://education.qld.gov.au) schools are required to:
- issue a written report to parents/carers at least twice a year;
- use the relevant reporting scale;
- offer parents/carers the opportunity to discuss their child’s achievement, effort and behaviour at the school with their child’s teachers, twice yearly; and
- offer parents/carers the opportunity to discuss their child’s achievement relative to the performance of their peer group.
To this end, report cards will be issued at the end of each Semester. This is a change from reporting at the end of each term in the past.
There will be two opportunities throughout the year where formal parent/teacher interviews will be held. The first will be on Wednesday 28 April. The second will be in term 3 on Wednesday 28 July.
Please use this opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing at school. Bookings can be made by following this link

2021 Next Step survey
The Queensland Government is conducting its annual statewide survey of all students who completed Year 12 in 2020. The Next Step survey is a brief, confidential survey that gains a comprehensive picture of the employment, study and life choices made by Queensland school completers in the year after they finish Year 12.
Between April and June, all our students who completed Year 12 last year can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate.
Further information on Next Step, including results from previous years, is available online at the link below or on toll free telephone 1800 068 587.

Easter Holidays
This is the last newsletter for the term. I wish everyone a very safe and happy Easter.
School resumes on Monday the 19th of April.
Year 8 Science
After learning about the properties of solids, liquids & gases, the particle theory, elements, atoms and ions in science this term, year 8 students are putting their knowledge to work to test a sample of lake water to find out what is polluting it.
They tested some sulfuric acid, a solution containing silver ions, salty water and a solution containing calcium ions with three different indicators and observed the results. Then they tested their sample of lake water and matched it up to their earlier results to see which one had contaminated the lake.
Each group was responsible for their own safety procedures and designed their own method.
Next they will be working out how much salt is in a sample of river water.
Science has all the solutions!

SPORT NEWS
State Tennis - Anna And Haley Moloney recently travelled to Brisbane to compete at the State Titles for Tennis. The girls enjoyed the week competing and while some matches were cancelled due to the constant rain, the girls mentioned it was an experience of a lifetime. Anna stated that they saw, met and well basically stalked Ash Barty over the week! Congratulations girls on representing the South West Team with pride.
State Swimming – Lillian Stenhouse was part of the South West Swim Team that competed at Sleeman Sports Complex in Brisbane recently. Lillian was selected in the 50m Freestyle and swam a personal best time of 30.98 and placed her 28th in Queensland. Awesome effort for a country kid! Lillian was also in two relay teams.
SW Netball Trials -
Friday the 19th of March saw a busload of keen netballers venture to Chinchilla for the South West trials. Despite floodwater threatening to put a big dampener on the day, the bus was able to get through and we made it to the Chinchilla High School for the carnival. The girls had been training for a few weeks and were ready to take on girls from Roma, Tara, Miles, Taroom, Charleville and Chinchilla to hopefully secure spots on the south west teams.
The senior girls were lucky enough to be able to play in the hall and had three games to prove themselves. The girls played well, strong in all areas of the court despite having no subs. Several girls were looked at for possibles and probables: Breanna Lee, Paige Clark, Anna Moloney and Michelle Hams.
The junior girls had to play on the outdoor courts for all four of their games but handled the challenge gracefully. Several girls also had a chance to try umpiring some of their games. Once again, our team was very competitive and three girls were selected for possibles and probables: Millie Lockwood, Emalie Hams, and Lillian Stenhouse.
Congratulations to Paige Clark and Emalie Hams who both made the South West teams, and to the girls selected as shadows: Anna Moloney, Michelle Hams, Millie Lockwood, and Lillian Stenhouse.
It was then time for a long trip home on the bus. Well done to all of the girls who represented our school so well and were a credit to St George.
A big thanks to our wonderful coach and bus driver, Kym Weatherall. So much of our successes are down to you and your experience and guidance, as well as literally driving the bus to get us there!

Show Team
Thank you to all that reached out to our Show Team after the incident at our Ag plot involving our sheep. A huge thank you to Elders St George and Waratah for their kind donation of a 250m roll of stock safe fencing wire to help make our fences safer around the Ag animals.
The St. George State High Show Team travelled to Warwick on the 19th of March to compete in a range of livestock judging and showing competitions at the annual Warwick show. Despite a range of challenges in the week leading up to the show, the team pulled together and took 8 sheep and 6 head of cattle to the show. The students demonstrated professionalism in the judging ring and were commended for their efforts and behaviour by show society members. The team came away with the following achievements:
- Supreme All Breeds - Pair of Ewe Lambs
- Supreme Breeders group
- 2nd and 3rd Place - Droughtmaster bulls under 12 months
- 2nd Place - 2 tooth Ewe
- 3rd Place - 4 tooth Ewe
This show would not have been possible without the help of the following people. Thank you to Brendan Devine for donating the use of his truck to transport livestock to and from the show. A big thank you also goes to Nick and Rochelle Ferguson for their endless help and support before and during the show! Also thank you to Miss Jessica Embrey for driving the bus and helping throughout the show.
