POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING FOCUS Responsible – I will participate in all class activities |
From The Principal
It has been a wonderful start to the year! I have seen students and staff working diligently in class and working towards their set work for each lesson. Congratulations to the Year 7 cohort on settling into the new environment of the high school so well.
We anticipate about 209 students for our Day 8 process which will have some determination on our staffing and financial capacity this year.
The Year 7 meet the parents BBQ was held on Thursday afternoon at 5:00pm and was a great time to meet parents and carers of our youngest students. Thank you to the parents who were able to make the time to come along to this event and meet staff.
Our School Resources Scheme is up and running again this year. A reminder to any parent who is yet to return the form and sign up to this scheme that until this occurs there will be a limitation on the range of resources and activities your child can engage with. Once you have signed and returned this form there will be no requirement for you to do so again while your student is enrolled at the school. Families who may be experiencing financial difficulties are encouraged to contact the Business Manager (Mrs Jo Withers) so we can develop a part-payment schedule for you.
Our swimming carnival is scheduled for Tuesday next week so by now you have received and had your student return all the necessary paperwork around this important event. I encourage all students to attend the pool for this day and participate in what is always a great day.
I am delighted to welcome to the school the new staff for 2021:
Miss Vanessa Beavan, Miss Alice Rathie, Ms Annette McLean and Miss Theresa Brennan. Ms McLean is our Guidance Officer and works at the school Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Miss Brennan is the new school nurse who is here at school Tuesday and Wednesday.
As many families will be aware, the P&C has needed to order a range of uniform items that were in limited supply at the beginning of the year. While there may be some students missing parts of their uniform still, I want all students to wear their “formal” uniforms on the set days – Monday and Wednesday as from next Monday 8 February. Any student who is waiting for uniform supplies to arrive will be provided with a uniform pass until these orders have been completed. Until next time, Kind regards
York McFadzean

New Staff
School Based Nurse - Theresa Brennan
Welcome to the 2021 school year! I feel very privileged to be joining the school community this year as your School Based Youth Health Nurse (SBYHN). My name is Theresa Brennan; I grew up on a cattle property south of Emerald, in Central Queensland. I worked in Toowoomba Base’s Emergency department before transferring out here to your beautiful little community. I now am living with my partner on one of his family’s cattle properties, at Teelba, which is about 110km from St George and 20km from Flinton. I have two beautiful little puppies – ‘George’, a golden retriever, and ‘Chief’, a Kelpie cross, who will be a work dog.
As your SBYHN, I will be in the health and wellbeing building and available to all students, families and carers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7:30am to 3:30pm. I will work with you to provide health information and education on a number of issues affecting health and wellbeing as well as emotional and psychological support, and where appropriate, referrals to relevant health professionals for further support.
You might also run into me over at St George Hospital in the Emergency Department and general ward, where I work as a Registered Nurse one day a week. While my work in the hospital is clinically based, my role as your SBYHN does not allow me to administer first aid, medications, immunisations, examinations, or ongoing counselling. However, you can always come to me for anything at all, and if I can’t help you, I will do my very best to direct you to someone who can!
I hope I will become acquainted with many families soon, and I hope to be around for many years to come!
Have a wonderful week!
Your School-Based Youth Health Nurse, Theresa

Miss Alice Rathie
I am Miss Alice Rathie and I will be teaching Year 7A Mathematics, Science and Health and Physical Education. This is my first year teaching in a secondary school setting, as I have previously taught Year 5 at St Patrick’s St George for two years. I am originally from Toowoomba and I moved out to St George to start my teaching career in 2019. I love my sports particularly Rugby 7’s and Touch Football and enjoy spending time outside with friends and family.
I’m looking forward to welcoming students to Year 7 and assisting in their transitions to St. George State High School. I am eager to get to know each of you and to be able to offer support and guidance wherever possible.
I endeavour to have open lines of communication with as many of you as possible. However, if there are any questions, queries or concerns throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am available via email arath15@eq.edu.au and over the phone (07 - 4620 8222).
I wish all Year 7 students all the best!
Kind Regards,
Miss Alice Rathie
Miss Vaness Beavan
I hope you are all as excited as I am about beginning the school year here at St George State High School! My name is Miss Vanessa Beavan, and I will be teaching 7B Science and Mathematics - I cannot wait to share your learning journey this year and grow together as a class.
I am new to St George having lived all of my life in Brisbane, and I have quickly become enraptured by the location, culture and kindness of the community here in St George. I love to roller skate, travel, and play footy, and I am a big advocate for STEM education and inquiry based learning. I hope to inspire many young students to enjoy science and mathematics as much as I do, and to have fun while learning at school. Additionally, I am very passionate about celebrating each students’ cultural identity to ensure a contemporary and inclusive classroom atmosphere which is geared to support all youth through their education.
I believe every student has a right to learn, and I strive to provide students with a happy, safe, and inclusive education that enables development into accomplished, independent learners; physically, cognitively, and psychosocially. In return, I will expect my students to come to class prepared to learn with a positive and open mindset.
I look forward to meeting you all in the upcoming weeks. Please contact me at any time with any questions or concerns you may have and I will be more than happy to respond. My email is vbeav0@eq.edu.au or alternatively you can contact me by calling 07 4620 8222 to have a chat or book an appointment.
See you soon!
Miss Beavan.
