From HOD Junior Secondary Amy Mckenna
It has been a busy start to Term 1 with our new Year 7’s settling in, all of the normal extracurricular activities and sport dominating the calendar, and to top it all off, a flood and the ensuing bug brigade! I have been enjoying getting to know all of the Year 7’s even better, and have been impressed with how they have engaged quickly in their learning and rose to the challenges of high school. The Year 7’s are already getting on board with sport of all types, the musical, and show team, which is great to see. I would also like to acknowledge the fabulous Year 7 teaching team and the year level co-ordinator, Miss Kym Weatherall, who have all been going above and beyond to ensure that the Year 7’s have felt welcomed at school and assisted with their transition.
It has also been wonderful to see how the Year 8’s and particularly Year 9’s have matured over the holidays and that the majority of students have come back to school ready to learn and follow school and classroom expectations. Congratulations to the elected Student Council Representatives for Year 7, 8 and 9: Josie Small, Harry Coltzau, Penny Wilkinson, Jack Sullivan, Adele Chandler, Kacey Sanford, Grace Waters and Daisy Brown who will be a voice for their year levels in the student council. Our elected junior leaders and Indigenous ambassadors, Grace Waters and Daisy Brown, are also a credit to our school and fantastic role models for all students in the junior school to look up to.
Now that the homework diaries have arrived, can I encourage parents and carers to check your child’s diary for their homework and upcoming assessment. Teachers have been consistently giving homework and following up on this. If your child should need support with homework, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with their teachers, who are all committed to the success and wellbeing of their students. As assessment approaches, the library will also now be open on Sunday afternoons from 1-5pm for any student who would like to come and access computers, internet and books for assessment.
The HoDs and Year Level Co-ordinators have been doing a push this term on uniform expectations and ensuring our uniform policy endorsed by the P and C is being enforced. May I remind parents and carers that students are to be wearing formal uniform on Mondays and Wednesdays, and white socks with their sports uniform. Girls wear white socks with their formal uniform also, and boys wear grey socks. Students will need to have a uniform pass if they have a legitimate reason for being out of uniform which will be issued in the morning. Please contact the school or send a note with your student if they cannot wear the correct uniform. Already the take up on uniform has been fantastic- thank you for your support at home.
Thank you.

Year 7 Humanities
Term 1 of Year 7 Humanities has teleported our students 5000 years in the past to Ancient Egyptian civilisations. This week, students embraced the roles of archaeologists, participating in a school based archaeological excavation.
Students participated in the excavation, documentation and recording of clay artefacts, including bowls, pots, scarab beetles, birds, buttons and royal icons. Students has great success, uncovering hidden items and important historical artefacts. Riley and Kaliam managed to excavate their site and find all buried treasures. One lucky team, Tye and Teagan, managed to unearth the priceless golden snake artefact.
