Staff Changes for 2021
Each year there will be a number of staff who will be transferred to other schools within the State. This year we bid farewell to:
Mr Chris Rigney, Mr Michael Watson, Mr Phil Carrello, Ms Alanna Ives, Mrs Jo Pickham and Ms Kelly Lawton.
We acknowledge the fine work of these staff and wish them well in their future school settings.
Many of you will be aware that I have been absent from work for a few weeks managing a health issue. I want to acknowledge the support of the Region in providing an Acting Principal during this absence and in particular thank Mr Luke Ferdinands for his work during this busy time of the year.
School begins
In 2021 the school year will begin on Wednesday 27 January for all year levels.
Reports Issued
I have had the pleasure of signing the Semester 2 reports over the past few days. These will be mailed this week. I have been excited to see the many students who have made improvement in their overall academic performance, and in their effort and behaviour in the subjects studied. Congratulations to the many students who will receive recognition at our first Celebration Parade for 2021 that will occur in early Term 1.
Invitation to meet 2021 Year 12s
I have this week sent out a letter inviting all Year 12 students and their parents or carers to meet with me early in the New Year. This time is spent reviewing Year 11 and planning for success in Year 12. I invite all parents to contact the school office early in 2021 to set a time for this important meeting.
Have a safe and relaxing Festive Season!

From Acting Principal
Well that’s a wrap for 2020! What a year it has been with many firsts for our school, community and the world in general. While it has been challenging at times it has given everyone the chance to learn new things – we all know a whole lot more about staying safe, keeping our distance and sanitising our hands all the time! From what I have witnessed since I arrived, I can say with confidence that the students have seen the year out with a positive outlook and demonstrated perseverance in getting through their most difficult year of schooling.
I would like to thank everyone for their support over the last six weeks and I leave St George with many positive experiences and as I reflect back I realise how much I have learnt in such a short time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who have helped me to learn the school culture and understand what make St George SHS such a great school for this community. The staff are dedicated to delivering the best educational outcomes for students and I witnessed daily, their willingness to go above and beyond for students. They constantly give up their own time to provide extra opportunities which aren’t part of their written duties and shows their dedication to the students and community.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday period and let’s hope that 2021 is so good we quickly forget about the challenges of 2020.
Kind regards,
Mr Ferdinands.

This will be the last newsletter for 2020. A year that was like no other and has changed our lives forever. I would like to publically acknowledge and thank all parents and staff for supporting the education of the youth of St George and I look forward to working with you all again in 2021.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
On another note, the report cards have been sent home for all students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Please take the time to discuss the results with your student/s.
Congratulations to all of the Year 9 students who participated in work experience this week. The reports I am getting and the photos I have seen have been sensational. The community has gone out of their way to support the Year 9s in this process and this is very much appreciated. Thank you.
