School Opinion Survey for 2020

Parents and Caregivers are invited to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally.

Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can easily be completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.

To access the survey, please click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser:

Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.

Ms Nicole Hyland, Deputy Principal

From HOD Senior Secondary

What an unusual term it has been. I would like to congratulate all staff and students for getting back into the swing of classes after the learning at home experience.

For senior students this meant the reduced workload and removal of one assessment item. Please understand that report results will show this and for Year 11 and 12 subjects this mark will be from 1 or 2 assessment items only.

Year 10

Senior Education and Training plans will be completed today and for any Year 10 students who did not complete these I will reschedule them for early next Term. Next Semester the Year 10 students may be in different classes after meeting to discuss their senior years. This will better equip them for year 11 and 12 subjects and the workload expected of them.

Year 11

Students who have been graded at a D level for subjects will have had a meeting with me to discuss the best option for their future and may complete a subject change form. These forms also require a parent signature; please discuss these choices with your student so that we can all be on the same page. You can call or email me if I have not contacted you to discuss the matter.

Year 12

Wow! The year is flying past for the Year 12s and they are enjoying organising their Formal and practicing the dance. It is great to have this celebration and it is a favourite of mine. However, remind students that it is a celebration of a job well done, not the only thing to focus on. Students have had less assessment and while some have excelled, others have failed to apply themselves to their studies in an effective manner.

For any questions or concerns you may have regarding your Senior Secondary students please email me at daddi4@eq.edu.au or call 4620 8222.

Mrs Deborah Addison, HOD Senior Secondary

From HOD Junior Secondary

Well done to everyone for a term that has been unprecedented in its challenges. Thank you to all students who have been working diligently at school to complete assessment even though the disruption in the term has made this difficult. Thank you to parents supporting their children through this sometimes stressful and certainly busy time, and of course to staff who are all working extremely hard to ensure that their students are being given the best chance at success in their assessment possible.

This term has been less busy in some respects and more busy in others, and while we are missing things like camps, sport and excursions it has also made us appreciate those extracurricular items that make a school all that it is. We look forward to the resumption of some sports in Term 3 and the musical which has been flagged for Term 4. Several Year 7 and 8 students are participating in Optiminds, albeit a distance model, and Mr Basile is working on plans for the athletics carnival in Term 3.

I hope all members of our school community have a safe and happy holiday and maybe look forward to getting away from town for a few days, or simply relaxing and recharging for the second half of the year.

Miss Amy McKenna, HOD Junior Secondary

What’s Cooking In The Kitchen

It’s been a very busy few weeks in the Home Ec kitchen. Year 10 students cooked international dishes after studying other country’s eating habits and Year 7 students donated the Fried Rice they made for SALVOS fundraising. Year 8 have cooked pizza, their own creations using scone dough and gave up their mini quiches for fundraising. However, it is the Year 9 boys (and 1 girl) who have really shone making delicious mini cobs and soups for sale, producing coffee and drinks to supply the staff and creating some great dishes incorporating convenience foods for their test cookery. From yummy enchiladas, spaghetti Bolognese and stir-fries, pastas and curries with home-made naan bread, this group certainly enjoy their food and are doing a great job of producing it. All year levels will move to textiles/sewing units for next term. You’ll hear their hungry tummies growling from your place. Happy holidays to all and thank you to parents who ensure students have their cooking ingredients each week.
