Junior School Leaders Daisy Brown and Grace Waters
Congratulations to our Junior School Leaders Daisy Brown and Grace Waters. We look forward to the leadership you will bring next year.
From Principal York McFadzean
As this is the final newsletter for 2019, I want to take the opportunity to thank all parents, community groups and staff for their support of the school this year. Your contribution to the education of youth in St George is greatly appreciated. I look forward to working with you all again in the New Year.

Staffing changes for 2020
At this time of year, we say good-bye to staff who have worked at the school this year. Therefore, I am able to announce that Di Smith (Maths and Indonesian language teacher) has been transferred after working here since 2016. We wish her well in her new school and thank her for her years of dedication and support to the students of the school. Jarrad Ward is also leaving us at the end of this year. Jarrad came to St George as a HPE teacher at the beginning of 2019 and will be continuing his career in a school in the Central Highlands of Queensland. We wish him well in his new school. Peter Towney was originally employed as a District Relief Teacher and then moved into the learning support area following the transfer of Belinda Tolette. We wish Peter well in his future plans and thank him for his contribution to the school. In the same vein, Mereana Henare has worked at the school as a District Relief Teacher and will not be returning in 2020. Thank you Mereana for your work with our students this year.
Reports for Semester Two 2019
As this goes to press, the reports for the junior school are being finalised. They will be in the mail by week’s end. As has become a custom here at St George, our first parade for 2020 will be a celebration ceremony where we recognise the students who have improved in their academic, effort and behaviour reports across the two semester reports of this year.
Until next year, have a wonderful Festive Season
York McFadzean.

What an amazing year we have had. Year 12 finished as the last ever OP students and Year 11 started as the first ATAR students. Teachers have had a busy year writing new programs and assessment to start these students with the best chance for external exams and assessment at the end of 2020.
Year 10 also had a first with introduction to senior classes occurring in Semester 2 this year.
Below are my highlights from the year and I look forward to the highlights for the next year.

Year 11 ISK

This term gave the Year 11 Industrial Technology Skills class a chance to do something different. Earlier in the year Begonia State School’s Principal, Sarah Goddard approached the high school to design and build a “mud kitchen” for the new kindy students. Begonia gave the students the freedom to design and make the mud kitchen how they pleased. Kylie Whitaker did a great job at rustling up donations of a sink and pallets to assist in keeping the cost down and making the build possible. The Year 11 students then designed, built and painted an amazingly bright mud kitchen all with the size of kindy students in mind. It included a play oven, a running tap for the sink and a blackboard for them to be able to write a “shopping list.” The final part for the students was to drive it out to Begonia and install the kitchen.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the task and being able to see the children that will benefit from their hard work, made it even more worthwhile. Many thanks goes to all those in the community that kindly donated parts for this to happen. Hopefully the future holds more real world projects for the students to be a part of next year.

Enrichment Week
Year 8’s first Enrichment Week activity was to make some delicious Christmas foods that were then shared with our group and the year 7s. Some students made up small gift boxes of treats while others just took a bag of goodies for their own munching. Students also tried some craft work making candy cane mice to hang on the tree and a few even made a felt reindeer designed to hold a knife and fork on your Christmas table setting.
On Tuesday Years 7,8 and 9s spent the afternoon cooling off at the St George Pool. Thank you to Mr Basile, Mrs Small, Miss Ives and Ms Taylor for supervising.
On Thursday students travelled to Goondiwindi for their Rewards Trip to watch The Addams Family at the cinemas. Thanks to Mr Carrello and Miss Weatherall for accompanying them.

ASDAN Awards 2019
Students in the Year 9 ASDAN class recently displayed their work for their parents/caregivers and guests. Artworks, billboards and folders of evidence completed this year, were all set out for the visitors to see. Students prepared the afternoon tea for those attending and participated in commenting on their work. Awards were presented for effort in the key skills of the ASDAN course (to date) such as; problem solving, literacy, numeracy, communication, improving own learning and working with others. We thank Ms McKenna, Aunty Joy, and Sabina Ryan for joining us. We also thank our parents for making the time to see the hard work of the students. Well done each one of you!
Of course our progress could not have been achieved without the terrific support of Teacher Aides Leisa Mullholland and Mark Morris. We take this opportunity to thank them for their patience and encouragement throughout the year.
