From the Chaplain – Mr Adrian Toft

Hi folks, my name is Adrian Toft and I have just returned to St George to take up the role as the High School Chaplain. I was the first chaplain who worked in this role at our school from 2005/2006.On my return It's been great to see lots of changes to our school buildings, the addition of air conditioning for our students and use of the Skill Centre for our seniors. The Chaplains who have served in our school community over the last ten years have all done an amazing job. It's been great to see lots of friends who still teach and invest in our communities youth. I am looking forward to working alongside our staff and the other student support staff.

Year 8 Design & Technology

The current group for 8 Design & Technology are super sewers. Not only did they make an attractive cooler for a water bottle or can but most of them also had time to whip up a simple drawstring Christmas bag to carry their gifts. Quite a good effort for students who had rarely or never used a sewing machine 6 weeks ago. From Week 3 students will be working on the food & nutrition component of the course.

Year 7 Science

Student in Year 7 this term are learning about living and non-living things. Focusing on the five different kingdoms; animals, plants, monerans, protists and fungi. In today’s lesson we completed online activities and quizzes to do with; plant cells and body organs.

State Athletics – Chelsea Beardmore

From Saturday 19th to Tuesday 22nd of October the Queensland School Sport 13-19 years Track and Field Carnival was held in Cairns. Chelsea Beardmore represented South West School Sport at these championships along with 16 others from across the region. Chelsea finished 10th in the 17 years Girls Shot Put event throwing 9.82m. Well done to Chelsea for representing her school and the region with pride.

Mrs Sarah Goddard
South West Regional Coach/Manager

The phone policy at St George SHS

Changes have been introduced to the mobile phone and personal digital device policy of the school following concerns about how these devices have become a barrier to learning. The new policy and its guidelines has been ratified by the school Parents & Citizens Committee and came into effect as of day one Term 2 2019.

Mobile phones will not be used by students from 8.45am until 3.00pm (including breaks) unless it is required for a lesson and authorised by their teacher. If a student has a mobile phone visible they will be required to take it to the office and can collect it at 3.00pm. Multiple confiscations will lead to further consequences.

Parents are encouraged to contact the school on 4620 8222 if they wish to contact their children during school hours or to provide feedback on this important matter that directly relates to removing barriers to student learning.
